U.S. President Donald Trump voiced strong disapproval following Russia’s deadliest assault on Kyiv in nine months, calling on Russian President Vladimir Putin to “STOP!” as he continues to push Ukraine toward accepting a controversial ceasefire agreement.
Donald Trump unhappy with Russian attacks on Ukrainian capital
The large-scale attack involved 70 missiles and 145 drones, mostly directed at the Ukrainian capital. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky characterized the strike as an attempt to sway U.S. decision-making.
Reacting on Truth Social, Trump posted, “I’m very disappointed by the Russian attacks on KYIV. Completely unnecessary—especially now. Vladimir, STOP! 5,000 troops are dying every week. Let’s finalize the Peace Deal!”
Russian attack on Kyiv leaves many dead
The strike left at least eight people confirmed dead, with more feared trapped under debris. Emergency responders reported that 13 locations across Kyiv, including residential neighborhoods and civilian infrastructure, were hit. Initial figures indicated nine deaths and over 60 injuries.
This was the most severe attack on the Ukrainian capital since July 2024, when 33 people died in an aerial strike that targeted hospitals and residential areas.

Ukrainian President Zelensky on this Russian attack
During a visit to South Africa, Zelensky said the timing of the bombardment appeared calculated to influence American politics. Responding to Trump’s call for Ukraine to compromise, Zelensky stressed, “Agreeing to negotiations after a full ceasefire with terrorists is already a major concession.”
Russian Defense ministry claims responsibility for Kyiv attack
Meanwhile, Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed responsibility for what it described as a “massive strike,” using high-precision long-range weapons launched by air, land, and sea. The ministry stated the targets included Ukraine’s aerospace and defense industries, rocket fuel storage, and gunpowder facilities. “All assigned targets were successfully neutralized,” the statement read.
Ukrainian officials confirmed that rescue efforts are ongoing to locate survivors. In response to the attack, Zelensky announced he would cut his trip short and return to Ukraine, stressing the urgency of coordinating with international allies to strengthen air defense systems.
