Delhi Police arrested a 41-year-old man, Ajay Kumar, on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting and attacking Congress’ Lok Sabha candidate Kanhaiya Kumar with ink.
The arrest was made from Ajay Kumar’s residence in New Usmanpur, where the attack on Kanhaiya Kumar took place. The police officials are continuing efforts to apprehend other individuals involved in the case.
The attack happened on May 17 when Kumar, the INDIA bloc nominee for the North East Delhi seat, was leaving the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) office in New Usmanpur following a meeting with local Councillor Chhaya Sharma. As he exited the office, a group of people approached him.
In the complaint filed by Councillor Sharma, she described the incident: “Some persons came and put a garland around Kanhaiya Kumar. After garlanding him, some persons threw ink on Kanhaiya Kumar and tried to assault him.”

Sharma also mentioned that when she attempted to intervene, the group misbehaved with her and issued threats.
The arrest of Ajay Kumar marks a significant step in the investigation, but authorities are still searching for additional suspects involved in the attack. This incident has heightened tensions in the area as the election campaign intensifies, drawing attention to the security of candidates and the conduct of political supporters.
