In a significant development, the Congress has dissolved its state unit in Himachal Pradesh, one of only three states where it holds power with its own chief minister. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, who stated, “Honourable Congress President has approved the proposal to dissolve the entire state unit of the PCC, District Presidents, and Block Congress Committees of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee, with immediate effect.”
Pratibha Singh, the outgoing president of the Himachal Pradesh Congress unit and widow of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, has been at the helm since 2022. Singh, a prominent figure in Himachal Pradesh’s Congress leadership, was initially seen as a frontrunner for the chief ministerial position after the 2022 Assembly elections, although the role ultimately went to Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

Congress Restructures State Unit for Revamp
This is not the first time the Congress has dissolved its Himachal Pradesh unit. A similar restructuring occurred in 2019, when the party dissolved its state unit while retaining the then-president, Kuldeep Singh Rathore.

The recent dissolution is viewed as a part of a broader plan to revamp the state organization, aligning it with the Congress’s goals for future elections.
Pratibha Singh’s Leadership and Future Prospects
Pratibha Singh’s tenure as state unit president was marked by her active involvement in Congress’s election strategy. However, her continuation in a leadership role within the restructured state unit remains uncertain, as the Congress looks to refresh its strategy in Himachal Pradesh to solidify its standing.
