Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump cast his ballot in Palm Beach, Florida, on Tuesday, but tensions flared as he declined to clarify his stance on Florida’s hotly debated abortion ballot measure. When reporters pressed him twice about how he voted on the measure, Trump snapped, telling one reporter to “just stop talking about that.”
The Florida ballot measure in question would prevent lawmakers from enforcing any restrictions on abortion access before the point of foetal viability, typically considered around 21 weeks. Trump avoided directly addressing his view, instead noting his role in “bringing [the issue] back to the states” by appointing Supreme Court justices who helped overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022.
Trump’s Mixed Signals on Abortion Policy
Trump’s stance on abortion has varied over time. Though he initially suggested support for the Florida measure, he recently indicated he might vote against it. In August, he publicly criticized Florida’s six-week abortion ban, calling it “a mistake” on Fox News and arguing that “six weeks, you need more time.”
At the same time, he accused Democrats of advocating “radical” late-term abortion policies, a claim he has often repeated in his campaign speeches.

The Florida ballot measure is one of several initiatives across eight states aiming to establish constitutional protections for abortion rights. States like Arizona, Missouri, Nebraska, and South Dakota are also considering amendments that could overturn existing bans or restrictions, potentially expanding access for over 7 million women of childbearing age.
Trump Holds Narrow Lead in Presidential Race
According to Associated Press projections, Donald Trump currently leads with 267 electoral votes, just three shy of the 270 required to secure the presidency, while his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris stands at 214 electoral votes. Trump has amassed approximately 68 million votes (51.2 percent of the popular vote), compared to Harris’s 63 million votes (47.4 percent). Although Trump’s lead appears strong, the AP has yet to officially call the race.
