An Air India Express flight en route to Sharjah made an emergency landing at the Tiruchirappalli airport in Tamil Nadu on Friday evening due to a technical snag. The flight, carrying 140 passengers, took off from Trichy at 5:43 pm but soon reported a hydraulic failure mid-air, leading to a tense situation.
According to Trichy airport officials, the pilot alerted the air traffic control (ATC) about the hydraulic issue, which affected critical systems such as the landing gear, brakes, and flaps. The flight hovered over Trichy airspace as the crew assessed the situation. Despite initial preparations for a belly landing, where a plane touches down without its landing gear, the landing gear successfully deployed, allowing the flight to land normally.
Precautionary Measures and Response
Airport authorities had prepared for the worst-case scenario, placing ambulances, fire engines, and rescue teams on standby. Fuel dumping was also considered to make the aircraft lighter, but the option was discarded as the plane was flying over residential areas.
Videos from the scene showed passengers and onlookers cheering as the flight touched down safely on the runway.

Chief Minister Commends Crew
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin praised the captain and crew for their quick thinking and successful handling of the emergency. He also thanked the officials for their timely response and assured that all passengers were safe and well-cared for.
“I am heartened to hear that the Air India Express flight has landed safely,” the Chief Minister tweeted. “I immediately coordinated with officials and instructed them to deploy all necessary safety measures. I have now directed the District Collector to ensure the continued safety of all passengers.”
The quick response from the crew and emergency teams ensured the safety of all passengers, preventing what could have been a more dangerous situation.
