New Delhi: Almost a month ahead of the Congress presidential election, senior Congress leaders and MP Shashi Tharoor met party president Sonia Gandhi at her residence on Monday. Meeting of Tharoor with Gandhi is crucial as the members of G 23 group from Congress had earlier dropped a sensational letter seeking organisational reform in the party. Though Tharoor is not the member of G 23 but he had hinted to fight for the presidential post of the party. The Congress presidential poll is scheduled on October 17.
According to the report, Tharoor met Gandhi at 10 Janpath along with Deepender Hooda, Jai Prakash Agarwal and Vijendra Singh.

Shashi Tharoor, earlier in the day, had supported a petition by some young Congress workers, calling on the new party president to implement the Udaipur Declaration in entirety within the first 100 days of assuming office. Tharoor, in a tweet, wrote, “I welcome this petition that is being circulated by a group of young @INCIndia members, seeking constructive reforms in the Party. It has gathered over 650 signatures so far. I am happy to endorse it & to go beyond it. https://memo.withinc.in.”
It may be noted that the Congress party has been facing internal heat since the letter to make organisational changes was written by a group of 23 leaders. These leaders have been demanding a change in leadership to strengthen its fight in the coming elections. The move of G 23 leaders, however, was opposed by those who are loyal to the Gandhi family. Even these leaders were alleged as rebellious in the party who have been damaging the party with very much intention.
