Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has announced that party leaders above 40 years of age will no longer be allowed to head the youth wings. He clarified that those crossing the age of 40 will be absorbed into the main organisation. He also reiterated that the party is firmly against the age-old practice of leaders holding two posts simultaneously.
These instructions were given during a meeting with party leaders from Barasat recently. Banerjee is currently touring districts and holding discussions with leaders to prepare for the upcoming Assembly election scheduled next year. So far, he has held meetings with leaders from Cooch Behar, Malda, East Midnapore, Nadia, Hooghly and East Burdwan. TMC state president Subrata Bakshi has been present at all these meetings.
Warning Against Factionalism and BJP Links
Banerjee has asked party leaders to bury their differences and work together to ensure the victory of Trinamool candidates. He alleged that some party workers have been keeping contacts with BJP leaders, adding that he has a list of such workers and action would be taken against them when necessary. Addressing the leaders of Barasat, he urged them to intensify their contact with local people to strengthen the organisation.
He directed leaders to take active part in the Amader Para, Amader Samadhan scheme to reach out to the grassroots. Stressing that there is no room for complacency, Banerjee said everyone must work very hard to secure victory in the election. He also expressed displeasure over the party’s performance in the recent Lok Sabha election.

According to party sources, Trinamool Congress will launch new programmes after Kali Puja. During the Durga Puja festivities, leaders have been asked to engage closely with people in their constituencies and spread awareness about the state government’s welfare initiatives.
“Residents should be made aware of various initiatives taken by the state government. We cannot afford to take the Assembly election lightly. Everybody should pull up their socks and work for the party,” Banerjee told the gathering.
It may be recalled that ahead of the 2021 Assembly elections, Banerjee had toured the entire state extensively. Party insiders note that he has detailed knowledge of leaders and workers down to the booth level, which will provide a significant advantage during his upcoming district visits.
