Humayun Kabir Video Controversy: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen has announced its decision to withdraw from its alliance with Humayun Kabir and his party Aam Janata Unnayan Party in West Bengal, hours after a controversial video allegedly featuring the latter surfaced in the political arena.
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said the party could not remain associated with statements that raise concerns about the integrity and representation of Muslim communities. In a post on X, AIMIM emphasised that it would now contest the upcoming West Bengal elections independently, without any alliance.
`
The development follows the release of a purported video by the Trinamool Congress, in which Kabir is allegedly heard making claims about connections with leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party and discussing electoral strategies.
The authenticity of the nearly 19-minute clip has not been independently verified. In the video, Kabir is purportedly heard referencing figures such as Suvendu Adhikari and Himanta Biswa Sarma, while also making remarks about financial arrangements and political coordination. Portions of the audio appear unclear, with fragmented references that include mentions of the Prime Minister’s Office.
Owaisi Flags Concerns Over Minority Representation
In its statement, AIMIM underscored that its political strategy is centred on providing an independent voice to marginalised communities, particularly Muslims. The party said it could not associate with any development that undermines the dignity or political agency of these communities.
Owaisi’s decision marks a significant shift in the political landscape of West Bengal, where AIMIM had planned to contest in alliance with Kabir’s party in multiple constituencies.

Rejecting the claims, Humayun Kabir termed the video as fabricated and alleged that it was generated using artificial intelligence to defame him. He warned of legal action against those responsible for circulating the clip.
Kabir, a legislator from Murshidabad’s Bharatpur seat and a former TMC leader, maintained that the controversy was politically motivated. He had formed the Aam Janata Unnayan Party after being suspended by the TMC in late 2025.
Electoral Complications After Alliance Collapse
Despite AIMIM’s announcement, Kabir indicated that practical challenges remain in altering electoral arrangements at this stage. He pointed out that nomination deadlines for the upcoming polls have already passed, making it difficult for either party to field candidates independently at short notice.
While acknowledging Owaisi’s decision, Kabir expressed respect for the AIMIM leader but refrained from further comment on the alliance breakdown.
The controversy has added another layer of complexity to West Bengal’s already charged political environment. With the TMC raising questions over Kabir’s alleged links and AIMIM stepping away from the alliance, the episode is likely to influence voter perception, particularly among minority communities.
