The central government on Monday criticised Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir’s recent comments against India, made from US soil, calling Pakistan “an irresponsible state with nuclear weapons.”
The sharp response came after Munir issued threats targeting Indian infrastructure and made statements hinting at nuclear escalation.
India hits back over nuclear threats, cites Pakistan’s terrorism links and weak democracy
Government sources, as quoted by PTI, accused Pakistan of posing a real risk to global security. “There is real danger of nuclear weapons falling into the hands of non-state actors in Pakistan,” they said, referring to the country’s entrenched terrorism problem, its weak democratic institutions, and the military’s dominance over Islamabad’s civilian government.
According to the sources, such provocative remarks from Pakistan’s army chiefs are “part of a pattern.” They added, “Whenever the US supports Pakistan’s military, they always show their true colours… It is a symptom that democracy doesn’t exist in Pakistan; it is their military which controls.”

Speaking at an event in Tampa, Florida on Sunday, General Munir claimed Pakistan would destroy any Indian dam that could affect water flow to his country.

“We will wait for India to build a dam, and when it does so, we will destroy it with ten missiles,” he said, further asserting, “The Indus river is not the Indians’ family property… We have no shortage of missiles, Alhumdulillah.”
In a broader warning, Munir also issued a nuclear threat: “We are a nuclear nation. If we think we are going down, we’ll take half the world down with us.”
Indian officials have described these comments as irresponsible and dangerous, reiterating that Pakistan’s track record under military control underscores global concerns about its nuclear safety and intentions.
