A 24-year-old man, identified as Sangeet Singh from Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddha Nagar, was apprehended by paramilitary forces at the Delhi airport, Indira Gandhi International Airport, for impersonating a pilot.
The incident occurred when Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel noticed Singh strolling near the Delhi airport skywalk dressed in a pilot’s uniform, despite lacking legitimate credentials.
Singh had gone to great lengths to maintain his charade, even deceiving his own family into believing he was a commercial pilot. He was found sporting an ID card claiming to be an employee of Singapore Airlines.
However, upon closer examination, it was discovered that Singh’s purported credentials were entirely fabricated. He had created a counterfeit ID card using a business card maker application and obtained the pilot’s uniform from the Dwarka area of Delhi.
Investigations revealed that Singh had completed a one-year aviation hospitality course in Mumbai back in 2020, which likely fuelled his desire to pose as a pilot.
“Presenting himself as a Singapore Airlines pilot to CISF personnel at the Delhi airport, he displayed an ID card hanging from his neck. Upon interception, he was identified as Sangeet Singh in possession of a Singapore Airlines ID card for in-flight operations, which were subsequently confirmed to be counterfeit upon verification,” a senior police official told a news agency.
A case has been registered against Singh for his impersonation and fraudulent activities. This incident highlights the seriousness of airport security breaches and the necessity for vigilant measures to prevent unauthorised access and potential threats within airport premises.
