The Election Commission of India has declared the final results of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, with the Bharatiya Janata Party registering a decisive victory by winning 206 out of 294 seats, comfortably crossing the majority mark of 148.
The ruling All India Trinamool Congress finished a distant second with 81 seats, marking a sharp decline from its previous dominance in the state. Other parties, including the Congress, CPI(M), and smaller regional outfits, secured a marginal presence in the Assembly.
This is the first time the BJP will form a government in West Bengal, ending over a decade of Trinamool Congress rule led by Mamata Banerjee. The result represents a significant political shift in the state’s electoral landscape.
The counting of votes began at 8 am and proceeded through multiple rounds, starting with postal ballots followed by Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) tabulation. The process was conducted under tight security across counting centres statewide.

According to official data, the BJP’s tally crossed the 200-seat mark, reflecting a broad-based performance across regions, including North Bengal, Jangalmahal, and several parts of South Bengal. Individual constituency results also highlighted the mixed nature of contests, with both BJP and TMC securing key wins in different pockets of the state.
The election, held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, recorded a voter turnout of approximately 92.47%, one of the highest in the state’s history.
With the final results now confirmed, the BJP is set to form the next government in West Bengal, while the Trinamool Congress moves to the opposition benches.
