Kaushik Mukherjee, the COO and co-founder of Sugar Cosmetics, was shocked when he saw the price of pani puri at Mumbai airport. Each plate had 8 pieces and cost Rs 333.
He also shared a post on X showing pictures of popular Indian street food dishes like dahi puri, paani puri, and sev puri.
Expressing his disbelief, Mukherjee took to the platform to convey his astonishment at the prices of these street foods, particularly at Mumbai airport. He remarked that while he understood the high costs of real estate at the airport, he hadn’t anticipated such steep prices for food, especially pani puri.

Mukherjee expressed his surprise in the post, saying that he didn’t know food stalls at Mumbai airport were so expensive due to high real estate costs. The post got over 42,000 views on X. The post was captioned, “Real estate is expensive for food stalls at the CSIA Mumbai airport – but I didn’t know this expensive.

Many users echoed Mukherjee, sharing their experiences of high food prices at airports. One user, Pradeep Krishnakumar, joked that the value of the last Sukhi Puri in the plate must have gone up. Another user quoted a famous dialogue from the movie 3 Idiots, suggesting that soon even paneer (cottage cheese) might be sold at exorbitant prices.
It’s common knowledge that food at airports is pricey, often leaving travelers with few affordable options. Last year, a restaurant at Mumbai airport made headlines on X for charging Rs 600 to Rs 620 for dosa and buttermilk, and even more if coffee was added.
In a similar incident the year before, a journalist’s report of paying Rs 490 for two samosas, a cup of tea, and a water bottle at Chhattrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport went viral. These instances highlight the high prices travelers often face at airports.
