The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has initiated disciplinary action against former Union Minister and Member of Parliament Jayant Sinha for reportedly neglecting to participate in the voting process during the recent elections. Allegations suggest that Sinha has been inactive in organizational duties and election campaigning since the party announced Manish Jaiswal as its candidate for the Hazaribagh seat in Jharkhand.
In response to Sinha’s alleged lack of involvement, the BJP has issued a show-cause notice, citing concerns about his disengagement from party responsibilities. Aditya Sahu, the BJP state general secretary, expressed disappointment in Sinha’s behavior, stating, “You are not taking any interest in organizational work and election campaigning ever since the party declared Manish Jaiswal as the candidate from the Hazaribagh Lok Sabha seat. You did not even feel the need to exercise your vote. The party’s image has been maligned because of your conduct.”
Sinha, who had previously expressed his desire not to contest the Lok Sabha polls in March, has been urged to provide an explanation for his actions within a two-day period. Despite being issued the notice, the 61-year-old politician has yet to respond.
On March 2nd, Sinha publicly appealed to BJP chief JP Nadda to relieve him of his electoral duties, expressing his intention to focus on combating global climate change. Following his request, the BJP swiftly announced Manish Jaiswal as its candidate for the Hazaribagh constituency.
The BJP’s decision to replace incumbents such as Gautam Gambhir and Jayant Sinha with new candidates reflects its strategic reevaluation of electoral prospects. Harsh Malhotra has been nominated by the BJP to contest from the east Delhi constituency, replacing Gautam Gambhir.
Sources within the BJP’s election machinery revealed that extensive deliberations led to the decision not to renominate Gautam Gambhir and Jayant Sinha for their respective constituencies. Sinha had previously secured victory in the Hazaribagh seat by a substantial margin of 4.79 lakh votes in the 2019 elections.
The recent round of polling in Jharkhand witnessed varying levels of voter turnout across constituencies. Notably, Hazaribagh recorded the highest voter participation at 64.32%, followed by Chatra at 62.96% and Koderma at 61.86%.
As the BJP takes measures to address internal discrepancies, Sinha’s response to the party’s disciplinary action remains awaited.
