Salman Khan’s Eid release, ‘Sikandar’, continues its disappointing run at the box office. Despite an impressive opening, the film has struggled to sustain momentum.
‘Sikandar’ Box Office Collection So Far
According to Sacnilk, the film collected Rs.5.75 crore (net) on Thursday (April 3), bringing its total domestic earnings to ₹90 crore.
Here’s how ‘Sikandar’ performed at the box office:
- Day 1 (March 29): Rs.26 crore
- Day 2 (Eid): Rs.29 crore
- Day 3: Rs.15 crore
- Day 4: Rs.10 crore
- Day 5: Rs.9.75 crore
- Day 6: Rs.5.75 crore
After Eid, the film witnessed a steep decline in earnings, dropping by 50% on Wednesday, collecting just ₹9.75 crore.
Screenings Cancelled Due to Low Footfalls
The film’s underwhelming performance has resulted in show cancellations across several cities. Reports indicate that multiple screenings were called off in Surat, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, and Indore due to lack of audience interest.
A trade analyst told Bollywood Hungama:
“We didn’t find any instance of the show getting cancelled in Mumbai. However, in Surat, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, and Indore, screenings were cancelled, especially in areas where there was little or no Eid effect.”
Despite the setbacks, ‘Sikandar’ has performed well in Mumbai’s Gaiety and Galaxy theatres, two of the city’s largest single-screen cinemas. The film’s strong demand at these venues even led to the reopening of ‘Gossip’, the third screen of Gaiety Galaxy, which had been closed for an extended period.
Star Power and Promotions Fail to Save ‘Sikandar’
Despite Salman Khan’s star appeal and aggressive promotions (including appearances with Aamir Khan), the film has struggled to captivate audiences. Word-of-mouth reviews and critical reception have not worked in the film’s favor, impacting its box office run.
