Shekhar Suman has been receiving a lot of praise for his outstanding performance in the Netflix series ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’. His portrayal of Nawab Khan Bahadur Zulfikar Ahmed, along with some intimate scenes, has grabbed the attention of viewers.
However, this isn’t his first encounter with such demanding roles and scenes. Back when he was just 22, Shekhar starred opposite Rekha in the 1985 film ‘Utsav’. Recently, on the Honestly Saying Podcast, he revisited the project that gave him to nationwide fame, sharing some amusing stories from the sets when he was pranked by director Girish Karnad and producer Shashi Kapoor.
Shekhar recounted the prank, revealing, “Shashi Kapoor and Girish Karnad had played a prank on me once because ‘Utsav’ was an erotic film. They told me I’d have to expose my bum in one scene. I was shocked and started crying, saying I couldn’t do nude scenes, but they were just teasing me.”
Reflecting on his time on the ‘Utsav’ sets, Shekhar Suman shared another amusing incident. He recalled, “When I arrived on set, I was carrying a baby. Instead of asking who the baby was, Shashi ji humorously asked, ‘What is that?’ I told him it was my son, to which he jokingly replied, ‘First, I don’t believe you’re married, and now you’re telling me this is your son?’ The crew had a good laugh as Shashi ji teased us, saying, “Look, the kids have produced another child!'”

Thanks to her cooperation, I was able to tackle those scenes with ease. I will always be indebted to her for making me feel comfortable.”
