Severe heat conditions in Delhi/NCR due to land/ surface concretization causing heat multiplier effect

The intense and severe heat conditions prevailing in the Delhi/NCR, are not merely a usual weather phenomena during this part of the year but because of the extensively, mindlessly and critically concretized land surfaces that create ‘Urban Heat Islands’, which causes a Multiplier effect to the heat trapped in the lower layers of the atmosphere.

The incoming high solar radiation, after being radiated back from the land surface, does not get enough open space to escape above, towards the upper layers of the atmosphere (where such columns of hot air then turns colder), and which, consequently, gets and remains trapped due to concretized horizontal (land/surface) and vertical structures, increasing the ambient temperature, by many notches.

The severity and duration of terrestrial radiation (radiation from the land surface) increases, and the effects of heat, generated, therefrom, are felt for a longer duration of time.

On the other hand, lesser impacts of heat and lesser temperatures are felt and experienced in open areas, such as agricultural fields.

It is time that this ecological disaster is addressed and immediate directions/measures are issued and taken to keep the ground/land surfaces vegetated, and not concretized/paved (with interlocking tiles or otherwise) so as to absorb the incoming solar radiation and curb the reflection and radiation of heat from the land surfaces.
