In a miraculous rescue operation, three-year-old Chetna, who fell into a 700-foot-deep borewell in Kotputli’s Kiratpura village on December 23, was successfully rescued after ten days of continuous efforts. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors have confirmed her condition as stable but under observation.
Chetna fell into the borewell while playing near her home in Badiyali ki Dhani. Her family discovered her predicament after hearing her cries just minutes later. Despite several immediate attempts, they were unable to pull her out, prompting the involvement of state and national disaster relief teams.
Rescue Challenges
The rescue faced numerous complications, including the borewell’s tilt after a certain depth, which caused errors in tunnel digging. In addition, there was limited access to supply food or oxygen in the final hours of the operation, leaving Chetna in critical condition before her rescue.

There were also miscalculations in the initial tunnel direction and width, which were later corrected with help from experts from Delhi and Jaipur Metro.
The digging team expanded the tunnel’s width from 8 to 12 feet, enabling the rescue operation to proceed successfully.
Community and Official Response
Kotputli Collector Kalpana Agarwal commended the rescue teams for their determination despite harsh winter conditions. “It was an extremely challenging operation due to the borewell’s depth and tilt. The teams worked tirelessly to save Chetna,” she said.
Dayaram, Chetna’s grandfather, expressed gratitude to the administration and rescue teams. “They worked day and night in freezing temperatures to save our little girl. I urge authorities to take strict action to cover all open borewells to prevent such incidents.”
This incident has once again highlighted the danger posed by uncovered borewells. Authorities have been urged to enforce stricter regulations to seal unused borewells and raise awareness about the potential risks to children.
Chetna’s rescue is a testament to the relentless efforts of the teams involved and serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing safety measures to avert such tragedies in the future.
