Days after the rape of a student at South Calcutta Law College sent shockwaves across West Bengal, another woman has come forward with serious allegations against Monojit Mishra—the prime accused in the rape case. The second accuser, also a student at the institution, claims she was molested and threatened by Mishra during a college trip two years ago.
In an interview to India Today TV, the woman alleged that Mishra, a Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) leader, not only assaulted her but also issued death threats targeting her family. “I was scared to approach the police because Mishra threatened to kill my parents and sister,” she said.
She further claimed that as many as 15 female students may have fallen prey to his “perversion” during his tenure at the college.

The student said her fear of retaliation and Mishra’s strong political influence—allegedly backed by Trinamool Congress MLA and college board president Ashok Kumar Deb—prevented her from filing a complaint at the time of the incident. She also claimed that police had previously ignored complaints against Mishra due to his proximity to political power.

“Mishra was protected, despite several reports. No one dared take action,” she added.
Following Mishra’s arrest in the rape case, multiple former classmates have described him as a “perpetual troublemaker” who reportedly routinely harassed girls within the Trinamool-run union office on campus.

Sources have revealed that Mishra has a history of violence and criminal conduct. Just two months ago, he was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer and damaging a patrol vehicle.
The April 13 incident reportedly began when Mishra entered an ATM kiosk near the college while holding a lit cigarette. After being confronted by the security guard, he allegedly launched into verbal abuse, followed by physical assault. When the police arrived, Mishra is said to have attacked them, breaking the windshield of their vehicle and assaulting an assistant sub-inspector.
Political Fallout Intensifies
The June 28 rape case, in which Mishra and two other students were arrested, has ignited a political storm. The survivor alleged that Mishra, enraged after she rejected his marriage proposal, raped her inside the college while the others watched. A security guard, who failed to intervene or alert authorities, was also arrested.

The BJP has seized upon the case, accusing the ruling Trinamool Congress of shielding the accused. The party has demanded strict action against all perpetrators and called for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s resignation, citing a collapse in law and order.
The Trinamool Congress has refuted the allegations, accusing the BJP of politicising a tragic incident.
