Kolkata Rape Updates | In a deeply disturbing development in the Kolkata law student rape case, the 24-year-old survivor has revealed in her complaint that she suffered a severe panic attack moments before the assault and was given an inhaler by one of the accused to calm her down. This shocking detail has emerged as part of her comprehensive statement, in which she has accused former Trinamool Congress student leader Monojit Mishra and two others of gangrape inside the South Calcutta Law College campus on June 25.
The survivor said Mishra forced her to stay back after a political meeting and tried to coerce her into sex. When she refused, she experienced breathing difficulty and requested an inhaler.
One of the co-accused, Zaib Ahmed, allegedly left the campus briefly to purchase the inhaler from a nearby pharmacy. After taking a puff, the survivor said she attempted to escape but found the main gate locked. She was then forcibly dragged to another room and raped while the other two accused — Zaib and Pramit Mukhopadhyay — filmed the assault.
Survivor Describes Brutal Assault, Threats and Blackmail
According to the survivor’s complaint, she begged for mercy, even touching Mishra’s feet and pleading to be released. Instead, she was taken to the guard’s room after Mishra allegedly ordered the security staff to stay outside — a claim now reportedly backed by CCTV footage. Once inside, the survivor says she was undressed and raped by Mishra while being blackmailed and threatened with violence.

“When I fought back, he blackmailed me… He threatened me that he would kill my boyfriend and arrest my parents,” her statement reads. She alleged that Mishra showed her explicit videos of the assault and threatened to make them public unless she complied with his future demands. The complaint further states that she sustained a head injury and was nearly struck with a hockey stick during the ordeal. “I was fighting for life. He also tried to hit me with a hockey stick. I just let myself [be] like a dead body,” she wrote.
CCTV and Pharmacy Staff Confirm Timeline
The survivor’s claims are corroborated by CCTV footage showing the accused dragging her to the scene of the crime, as well as by a local pharmacy staffer who confirmed that Zaib Ahmed had purchased an inhaler at the exact time mentioned in the complaint. These developments have further strengthened the survivor’s account and raised urgent questions about security and political protection on college campuses.

The case has sparked statewide outrage and placed the ruling Trinamool Congress under pressure, given the political affiliations of the main accused. The opposition has called for the Chief Minister’s resignation, while the TMC insists that no political connection will shield anyone from justice.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another heinous crime — the rape and murder of a medical student last year — and adds to growing concerns over women’s safety in West Bengal’s educational institutions.
