Tremors were reported in Kolkata on Tuesday after an earthquake struck Myanmar, triggering vibrations across parts of eastern India. The quake is estimated to have measured around 5.9 on the Richter scale, which gauges the magnitude of seismic events.
As of now, no reports of casualties or damage have emerged in connection with the earthquake.
The tremors felt in Kolkata came a day after two separate earthquakes were recorded in India, both measuring 4.6 in magnitude.
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the first quake struck the Andaman and Nicobar Islands early Monday at around 3.30 am. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, with its location marked at latitude 9.03° North and longitude 92.78° East.
Earthquake Hits Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla
Meanwhile, another earthquake of the same magnitude was reported from Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district early Monday.
Officials said the tremor occurred at around 5.35 am, with the Pattan area identified as the epicentre. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the region.
Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity across the region, as multiple moderate earthquakes within a short span have raised attention, even though no loss of life or property has been reported so far.
