With less than two weeks to go until the Maha Kumbh festival begins, the Uttar Pradesh government has undertaken a monumental effort to enhance the electricity and infrastructure facilities in Prayagraj, ensuring seamless services for the expected 40 crore devotees.
The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) has invested Rs 400 crore to create an extensive electricity network for the event. This includes the construction of 182 km of high-tension lines and 1,405 km of low-tension lines. Additionally, the fairgrounds will be illuminated with over 40,000 rechargeable bulbs to ensure continuous lighting, even in case of power interruptions.
Anoop Kumar Sinha, Executive Engineer of the Electricity Department, confirmed that these rechargeable bulbs will be strategically installed at key points, including 4.5 lakh electrical connections dedicated to the camps. Funding for this initiative, estimated at Rs 2.7 crore, is being drawn from ongoing projects in preparation for the Maha Kumbh.

The Maha Kumbh 2025 will see unprecedented safety measures:
Underwater and Aerial Surveillance: For the first time, underwater drones capable of diving up to 100 meters will monitor the river confluence, known as Triveni Sangam. Drones will also be deployed for aerial surveillance.
