The Minister of Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, and Backward Classes Welfare, Chamra Linda, has announced a significant initiative to improve the educational opportunities for tribal students in Jharkhand. During his visit to the Welfare Complex in Morabadi, the minister issued several important directives aimed at enhancing the functioning of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in the state.
The minister instructed the Tribal Welfare Commissioner to ensure that the admission process for tribal children from Classes 6 to 8 is completed in all 59 EMRS schools by May 1, 2025, and that academic activities commence promptly.
Education Reform for Tribal Students
Linda emphasized the government’s goal of bringing a positive transformation to the education system, particularly for tribal students. He highlighted that previously, only seven EMRS schools were operational in the state, leaving thousands of tribal children without access to quality education.
Now, the government is committed to running all EMRS schools and tribal ashram schools as Centers of Excellence, ensuring that students receive top-tier education and holistic development opportunities.
Student Transfers and Local Preferences
To accommodate tribal students closer to their hometowns, the minister announced a transfer option for students already enrolled in EMRS schools located outside their home districts.

Transfers will apply to students from Classes 6 to 8, with the exception of Classes 9 and 10, ensuring they can continue their studies without disruption. The transfer options will be finalized between February 15 and 25, 2025.
Any vacancies arising from transfers will be adjusted during the admission process for the upcoming academic year.

The responsibility for managing the admission process for the 2025-26 academic session will rest with divisional deputy directors of welfare across the state.
Local Enrollment Priority
Students will be enrolled in EMRS schools within their block, district, or nearby districts based on availability and preference.
Coverage for Non-EMRS Districts
Students from districts without an EMRS school will be admitted to the nearest available school, accommodating their preferences.
