Pakistan May Seek Information On Military Train Movement, Warns Railways | In a critical national security advisory, the Indian Railway Ministry has warned its employees against falling prey to possible espionage attempts by Pakistan intelligence agencies, which are allegedly seeking information on military train movements across the country. The advisory, issued on May 6, came just ahead of India’s missile strikes on nine terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under Operation Sindoor.
The cautionary directive, shared with all Principal Chief Operation Managers across the Indian Railways network, stressed the grave threat to national security that any leak of such confidential information could pose.
“Pakistan intelligence operatives may call railway officials and seek confidential information regarding military special train movements,” the Railway Board said in a message.
No Tolerance for Information Leaks, Railways Warns
The advisory underscores that only the Military Rail (Mil Rail) wing — a specialised branch of Indian Railways that manages logistical coordination with the armed forces — is authorised to handle such sensitive military transport data.
“Disclosing such information to any unauthorised person other than Mil Rail staff by railway officials will be considered a breach of security and a grave threat to national security,” the Railway Ministry stated.

It urged all zones to sensitise officers and staff to the critical nature of military train movement data and ensure strict compliance with security protocols.
Advisory Linked to Rising Indo-Pak Tensions
The advisory came hours before the Indian military launched Operation Sindoor, a precision missile campaign that targeted key terror camps linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The strikes were a response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which killed 26 civilians, including a Nepali national.
Given the high operational movement of military assets, including troop deployment via trains, Indian intelligence sources believe Pakistani agencies may intensify their espionage efforts to gain tactical insight. The Railway Ministry’s early warning is seen as part of a broader national effort to tighten internal security protocols during times of heightened military activity.
Railway Employees on Alert Nationwide
Senior railway officials have been instructed to circulate the advisory widely among operational and administrative staff across all 17 railway zones.
“In case any individual seeks information about military movement, no information should be divulged to unauthorised persons,” the advisory concluded.

This isn’t the first time railway staff have been targeted by foreign spy networks. In previous instances, Pakistan’s ISI-linked operatives have tried to extract strategic movement details via phone calls posing as Indian officials.
The Indian Railways has long played a pivotal role in military logistics, moving thousands of troops and tonnes of equipment quickly across borders — making it a valuable target for hostile intelligence agencies.
