In a tragic incident, two soldiers of the Indian Army were killed in action following a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast by terrorists in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. The attack occurred while the soldiers were on a “fence patrol” along the Line of Control (LoC), the Indian Army confirmed.
The Indian Army’s White Knight Corps took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm the casualties and pay tribute to the fallen soldiers.
“White Knight Corps salutes and pays tribute to the supreme sacrifice of two gallant soldiers,” the army said in a social media post.
Following the attack, the army launched extensive search operations in the region to track down any potential threats. “Own troops are dominating the area and search operations are underway,” the army added.
Escalating Tensions Along the LoC
This deadly IED attack comes amid rising tensions along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. Just a day earlier, a soldier was critically injured by gunfire in the Rajouri district. The soldier, stationed at a forward post in the Kalal area of the Nowshera sector, was shot at around 2:40 pm. He was immediately rushed to a military hospital for medical attention. Initial reports suggest the gunfire originated from across the LoC.

The region has seen an increase in cross-border infiltration attempts. On February 8, terrorists opened fire on an Indian Army patrol in the Keri sector from a forested area across the LoC. Indian troops retaliated, and security measures were swiftly bolstered to prevent any infiltration.
The recent attacks underscore the persistent threat of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces remain on high alert, with intensified surveillance and counter-terrorism operations underway to prevent further casualties.
