The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday announced revised guidelines for the designing and printing of EVM ballot papers to make them clearer, more readable, and voter-friendly.
According to the poll body, the new ballot paper design will come into effect starting with the Bihar assembly elections. The updated format will feature colour photographs of candidates, with the candidate’s face occupying three-fourths of the photo space for better visibility.
“The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the existing guidelines under Rule 49B of the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961, for the design and printing of EVM Ballot Papers to enhance their clarity and readability,” the commission said in its statement.
The ECI added that this step is part of a broader set of reforms: “The initiative is in line with the 28 initiatives already taken by the ECI in the past 6 months to streamline and improve election processes and enhance convenience for voters.”
