Firozabad: In Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district, a police constable drew a huge crowd on the streets when he sobbed with a plate of food in hand and complained about the quality of food served at the police mess.
A video of the incident, which has now gone viral on social media, showed constable Manoj Kumar crying on the road with a plate of dal, rice and rotis even as a senior officer tries to pacify him and asks him to go inside the police station and talk to his seniors. However, the disgruntled police constable refuses to budge and says the seniors should come and talk to him.
In the video, Kumar is heard saying that he had complained to his seniors several times but no action was taken. He goes on to allege that the voice of constables like him are suppressed each day and said “the video should reach Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath” so that he knows what is the condition of Uttar Pradesh Police.
“I am being threatened that I will be fired from my job,” Kumar was heard telling the passersby in the video. “We work for such long hours but we are served watery dal and undercooked rotis at the mess. Even dogs won’t…will your children have such food?” Kumar asks.
Kumar also said that the Chief Minister had announced that the state government provides an allowance to ensure a nutritious diet for police personnel but the same does not reflect in the quality of food.
Later, in a tweet, Firozabad Police said, “In the tweet related to the quality of food of the mess, the CO City is investigating the quality of the food. It is noteworthy that 15 punishments related to habitual indiscipline, absenteeism and negligence have been given to the said complainant constable earlier.”
