In a tragic development, 26-year-old Srinjay Dasgupta, the stepson of senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh, was found dead at his apartment in New Town, Kolkata, on Monday night. The autopsy report has ruled out foul play and confirmed the cause of death as acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis, a severe and sudden form of pancreatitis.
Srinjay was the son of Rinku Majumder from her previous marriage. She married Dilip Ghosh, a former BJP MP and Bengal BJP chief, on April 18 this year. According to sources, Srinjay had been living alone at the New Town residence after his mother moved in with Ghosh post-marriage.
Girlfriend Alerted Family
On Monday night, Srinjay’s girlfriend, who had been visiting him, called Rinku Majumder after he complained of unease. She rushed to the flat and took him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

“He was not eating properly and had been missing his medicine doses. I could sense he was upset, though he never said anything to me,” Rinku Majumder told the media. She revealed that her son had been suffering from a neurological condition and was under medication.
Emotional Mother’s Day Visit
Just a day before his death, on Mother’s Day, Srinjay visited his mother and brought her gifts. “I had planned to ask Dilip ji to let Srinjay move in with us, or I would go back and live with him,” said Rinku, visibly emotional. “He told his friends, ‘You go home and see your parents. I don’t have anyone now.’”
Preliminary Probe Underway
Police have launched an investigation and registered a case. Initial findings suggest no external injuries or foul play. Authorities confirmed that two colleagues, including his girlfriend, had visited him earlier that evening.
Dilip Ghosh Reacts
An emotional Dilip Ghosh described Srinjay as a lively and affectionate young man. “It’s my bad luck. I never experienced what it means to have a son, but I am mourning the loss of one today. Srinjay was close to me,” said the senior BJP leader.
