The Independence Day box office battle is shaping up to be a massive crowd-puller as Rajinikanth’s Coolie has taken a decisive lead over Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2 in advance bookings. Both highly anticipated films are set for release on August 14, promising an electrifying holiday weekend for cinema lovers.
Rajinikanth Starrer Dominates Tamil Markets Ahead of August 14 Independence Day Clash
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Coolie has raked in Rs 26.55 crore from advance ticket sales, climbing to Rs 34.89 crore with blocked seats included. The film’s Tamil version is powering its numbers, contributing a staggering Rs 22.70 crore, followed by Rs 3.07 crore from the Telugu version. The Hindi version stands at Rs 71.87 lakh, while the Kannada version has brought in around Rs 5.38 lakh.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie features a star-studded cast including Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Soubin Shahir, and Aamir Khan.
‘War 2’ Lags Behind, But Strong in Hindi Markets
In comparison, Ayan Mukerji’s War 2 has managed Rs 9.47 crore in advance sales across all languages, with its total rising to Rs 17.66 crore when blocked seats are factored in. The film stars Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, Kiara Advani, Ashutosh Rana, and Anil Kapoor, and remains a strong performer in Hindi-speaking regions.
Despite this, Coolie’s Tamil version alone has outpaced the combined advance collection of War 2. Together, the two films have already generated an impressive Rs 52.55 crore in combined advance bookings, setting the stage for a record-breaking Independence Day weekend.
With one full day of bookings still to go, industry experts anticipate these numbers will climb significantly, potentially pushing this box office clash into historic territory.
