Chief Minister Hemant Soren has directed officials to take concrete steps towards setting up a Sports University in Ranchi, ensuring that all necessary procedures are completed at the earliest. He said that the establishment of the Sports University will provide a better platform to enhance the talent of sportspersons in Jharkhand and help them progress further.
The Chief Minister gave these instructions during a high-level meeting at Jharkhand Mantralaya in the presence of Tourism, Art-Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sudivya Kumar. Senior officials of the Sports Department and Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) were also present. The meeting was focused on the proposed upgradation of the Mega Sports Complex at Hotwar, Ranchi. During the review, the Chief Minister sought detailed information on the current status of all stadiums located at the Sports Complex in Khelgaon.
Mega Sports Complex Has Given Jharkhand Global Recognition
Hemant Soren highlighted that the Mega Sports Complex has provided Jharkhand with a distinct international identity. Very few sports centres in the country house stadiums for multiple sports within the same campus. He noted that the complex has consistently hosted national and international sporting events with great success. The state has regularly received the opportunity to host various prestigious tournaments.

The Chief Minister stressed that to maintain this reputation, all stadiums at Khelgaon must be upgraded with modern facilities in line with international standards. He said the arrangements must remain robust so that both national and international competitions can be conducted seamlessly.
Upgradation Must Meet International Standards
Soren emphasised that the Mega Sports Complex is used year-round, hosting regular competitions and serving as a practice venue for players. To ensure its optimum use, he directed that all shortcomings in the stadiums be rectified on priority. Necessary resources for organising sporting events must be provided, and modern technology and techniques conforming to international benchmarks should be utilised in the upgradation process. He also suggested engaging specialised agencies from different fields to achieve this goal.
