Bollywood action-drama Jaat, starring Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda, has stirred controversy just days after its theatrical release on April 10. The film has drawn the ire of the Christian community, who are demanding an immediate ban, citing a specific scene inside a church that they claim hurts religious sentiments.
Controversial Scene Sparks Outrage
The objectionable scene shows Randeep Hooda standing inside a church, directly beneath a crucifix positioned above the sacred pulpit. Another shot features congregation members in prayer, accompanied by references to violence within the church. These visuals were included in the official trailer, further intensifying the backlash.
Several members of the Christian community have strongly condemned the scene, calling it disrespectful and offensive. A video circulating online shows protestors chanting “Randeep Hooda murdabad” outside a public gathering.
Community Calls for Immediate Action
The community initially planned to hold protests outside theatres screening Jaat, but were stopped by police intervention. Instead, a memorandum was submitted to the Joint Commissioner, demanding:
- An immediate ban on the film
- Legal action against the cast and crew
- A 48-hour ultimatum, warning of intensified protests if no action is taken
The protestors allege that the film’s portrayal desecrates a sacred space and has deeply hurt their sentiments.
