Ambikapur: A Chhattisgarh man was seen carrying his seven-year-old daughter’s body on his shoulders in Surguja district Friday. The video, widely shared on social media platforms, said the man has travelled a distance of 10 kilometre on foot with the body in “absence” of a hearse van.
The incident forced state Health Minister T S Singh Deo to order an enquiry. The girl reportedly died at the Community Health Centre in Lakhanpur village of Surguja district. Her father, Ishwar Das, took away her body from the health centre before a hearse van could arrive.
Das, a resident of Amdala village, had taken his daughter Surekha to the Lakhanpur Community Health Centre early in the morning as she was down with fever.
The health staff reportedly said that the girl was suffering from high fever and her Oxygen level was also very low. She was immediately provided all necessary treatment but her condition deteriorated further and she died.
“We told the family members that a hearse will arrive soon. It came around 9:20 am but by then they had left with the body,” they said.
Since the video went viral on all social media platforms, Chhattisgarh health minister T S Singh Deo told the district’s Chief Medical and Health Officer to initiate necessary action after probing the matter. “On duty health personnel should persuade the family to wait for the vehicle. They should have ensured such things did not happen,” the Health Minister said.
