Actor Rupali Ganguly, has filed a defamation case accusing her stepdaughter for defaming the actor on social media, in the Bombay High Court on Monday.
The case seeks the deletion of all the defamatory social media posts from the public domain and demands a public apology both in official writing and on social media including a monetary compensation of Rs 50 crore.
What did the defending advocate say
Advocate Sana Raees Khan on Monday, brought in notice to the Court that in 2020, Rupali’s stepdaughter Esha Verma, had put defamatory posts when her (Rupali’s) serial, “Anupama” was set to be premiered. Khan submitted, “Now this post resurfaces and Verma has been making incessant defamatory posts which are being published, circulated, and they are nothing less than character assassination.”
Responding to the same, Justice Arif Doctor, asked for the proofs of such claim highlighting “This is a post of 2020. What do you mean by this has resurfaced? Has she posted it? In defamation, you will have to show if she has posted. The 2020 post talk about her father. The father has not come to court alleging defamation. In the social media post there is no reference to your client”.
As of now, Advocate Khan has been directed to clarify the allegation in the next hearing on January 13, 2025. In the court hearing, Esha Verma was not present, for she had submitted the notice to her advocate thrice.
Esha Verma, daughter of Ashish K Verma, had accused the ‘Anupamaa’ actor of threatening her parents and being the reason of her parent’s separation.
