Playback singer Alka Yagnik was conferred the prestigious Padma Bhushan India’s highest civilian honour by Droupadi Murmu during the second investiture ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.
Shortly after receiving the award, Alka Yagnik took to social media to share a heartfelt message with her followers. In the note, she spoke about her absence from public appearances and the spotlight over the last two years due to health-related challenges.

The singer acknowledged the support she received from fans throughout this difficult period, saying their prayers, messages and encouragement had remained a constant source of strength during her recovery journey.
Award Marks an Emotional Milestone
Describing the Padma Bhushan as a deeply emotional and humbling honour, Yagnik said the recognition represented more than just her professional achievements. According to her, the award also belonged to the countless listeners who embraced her music across generations and stood by her during both successful and challenging phases of her life.
She expressed gratitude to her audience, crediting them for carrying her songs through the years and helping shape her musical journey.

Alka Yagnik wrote in a post, “For the last two years, I have stayed away from the spotlight, from public appearances, and from sharing much of my journey. Many of you knew I am going through difficult health, and through it all, your love, prayers, messages, and unwavering support have stayed with me every step of the way.”
she added, “Today, as I stepped out to receive one of highest civilian honours in the country – the distinguished Padma Bhushan, I did so with a heart full of gratitude. This honour is deeply humbling, and while my name may be on it, it belongs just as much to every listener who welcomed my voice into their lives, carried my songs through generations, and stood by me through both the highs and the challenges.”
