Ahead of a crucial debate in the Lok Sabha on Operation Sindoor, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju drew parallels between India’s military action and a pivotal moment from the Ramayan. Posting on social media platform X, Rijiju wrote, “When Ravan crossed the Laxman Rekha, Lanka burned. When Pakistan crossed the red lines drawn by India, terrorist camps faced the fire!”
The BJP leader’s post came just two hours before the 16-hour-long special debate on Operation Sindoor was scheduled to begin in the Lok Sabha on Monday. The debate marks a significant parliamentary moment in the ongoing monsoon session, which began on July 21.
Rijiju also shared a video featuring a song in Kailash Kher’s voice, with lyrics that highlight India’s “aan, baan, swabhimaan” dignity, pride, and self-respect. The video opens with Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicating Operation Sindoor to “every mother, sister and daughter of the country.”

Operation Sindoor Faces Parliamentary Test Amid Political Consensus and Questions
Operation Sindoor was India’s military response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. The Opposition, while voicing “full support to the operation in national interest,” has pushed for clarity on the diplomatic narrative surrounding it, particularly in the wake of repeated remarks by former US President Donald Trump.

Trump had claimed that he intervened to prevent a potential nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan by leveraging trade negotiations. Indian officials, however, have asserted that India’s decisions are made independently, without foreign influence.
The debate in the Lok Sabha is expected to be followed by a similar 16-hour discussion in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, July 29. The agreement to hold the debate followed a week of disruptions in Parliament by Congress and other opposition parties demanding discussion on the operation and India’s diplomatic positioning.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to open the debate. Other senior leaders expected to speak include Union Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and BJP MPs Anurag Thakur and Nishikant Dubey. Prime Minister Modi is also expected to intervene in both Houses.
