A woman travelling on the Bengaluru Metro was fined ₹500 for eating inside the train, highlighting Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited’s (BMRCL) ongoing crackdown on rule violations. The incident occurred on Saturday while she was journeying from Madavara metro station to Magadi Road metro station. A fellow commuter noticed her eating, recorded the act, and shared it on social media, drawing swift action from metro officials.
BMRCL reminded the public that eating, drinking, and littering inside metro trains are strictly prohibited. The corporation issued a fine and reinforced its commitment to ensuring a clean and safe travel environment for all passengers.
Earlier, BMRCL revealed that in the past six months, over 27,000 instances of rule violations were detected during security checks conducted mainly during non-peak hours. Offenses included eating, drinking, littering, and the consumption of chewable tobacco products, leading to public health and hygiene concerns inside metro premises.

“Data from routine security checks conducted by Namma Metro’s security squad on moving trains during non-peak hours over the last six months, from September 2024 to March 2025, has revealed a staggering 27,000-plus violations, causing inconvenience to fellow passengers,” BMRCL said in an official release.
To combat these issues, BMRCL announced that security measures will become stricter. Random physical pat-downs will be conducted at metro stations, and surveillance inside trains will be intensified. Platform guards and the central security surveillance team will collaborate closely to monitor and penalize violators quickly.
In addition to food-related violations, passengers caught consuming tobacco or related products will be fined as part of a larger initiative to maintain hygiene and curb spitting within metro premises.
The BMRCL urged all commuters to respect metro regulations and contribute to maintaining a clean, respectful travel atmosphere for everyone.
