Confident Group chairman CJ Roy died by suicide after allegedly shooting himself at his Bengaluru office while Income Tax (IT) Department raids were underway, police said. He was 57.

Earlier on Thursday morning, the Income Tax Department conducted raids on companies linked to Roy. During the searches, it was allegedly revealed that he possessed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
According to police, the real estate developer allegedly shot himself in the head following the Income Tax action at his office premises.
Sources said Roy was under severe distress due to repeated IT raids.

CJ Roy was a well-known name in the real estate sector. His firm, Confident Group, has a strong presence across several southern Indian states, particularly Kerala and Karnataka.

A native of Kochi, Kerala, Roy had also ventured into film production. He produced Malayalam films, including Mohanlal-starrer Casanova (2012).
The Confident Group was also the title sponsor for multiple seasons of the Malayalam television reality show Bigg Boss Malayalam, hosted by Mohanlal.
