The analysis also revealed that 11 or 18 per cent winning candidates have declared serious criminal cases against themselves.

New Delhi: The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has analysed affidavits of all the 60 winning candidates of the 2022 Manipur Assembly election and found out that at least 14 or 23 per cent have declared criminal cases against themselves. Of the 60 MLAs analysed during the 2017 Assembly election, two or three percent MLAs had declared criminal cases against themselves.
The analysis has also revealed that 11 or 18 per cent winning candidates have declared serious criminal cases against themselves. Of the 60 MLAs analysed during the 2017 elections, two or three per cent MLAs had declared serious criminal cases against themselves.
It further said that seven or 22 per cent of the 32 winning candidates from BJP, four or 80 per cent of the five winning candidates from Congress, one or 14 per cent of the seven winning candidates of National People’s Party (NPP), one or 17 per cent of the six winning candidates of JD (U) and one or 33 per cent of the three Independent winning candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
ADR’s analysis added that five or 16 per cent of the 32 winning candidates from BJP, four or 80 per cent of the five winning candidates from Congress, one or 14 per cent of the seven winning candidates from NPP and one or 17 per cent of the six winning JD(U) candidates have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
Out of the 60 winning candidates analysed, 48 or 80 per cent are crorepatis. Of the 60 MLAs analysed during the 2017 assembly election, 32 or 53 MLAs were crorepatis. As many as 25 of the 32 from BJP, six of the seven from NPP, five of the five from Congress, five of six from JD(U), all five from NPF and two of the three Independent winning candidates have declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore.
