Sources reveal that the CEC emphasized selecting non-controversial candidates while giving significant consideration to women from OBC and other underrepresented sections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President JP Nadda participated in the meeting, which scrutinized recommendations from the Delhi BJP Core Committee. Earlier that day, the core committee had prepared a tentative list of candidates.
The selection process involved rigorous scrutiny of candidates’ profiles, focusing on gender, winnability, organizational contributions, and social and caste factors. These parameters were aligned with findings from an internal survey conducted by the party.
The First List of Candidates
The BJP had issued its first list of 29 candidates on January 4. Key names in the initial list included Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, who will contest against AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, and former MP Ramesh Bidhuri, who is the candidate from Kalkaji, where CM Atishi is in the fray.

With the release of its second list, the BJP aims to strengthen its position in the national capital by balancing diverse factors such as caste representation, gender inclusivity, and organizational loyalty. The party’s strategy reflects its focus on fielding candidates with high winnability and appeal to a broad spectrum of voters.
