The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission against the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), alleging that the agency’s recent raid in Sandeshkhali was a deliberate attempt to tarnish the party’s image during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
The TMC accused the CBI of conspiring with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Security Guard (NSG) to orchestrate a smear campaign.
The complaint letter from the TMC highlighted several grievances regarding the CBI’s conduct during the raid. The TMC claimed that the CBI conducted the raid without prior notification to the state government or local police.
Additionally, the party alleged that the CBI deliberately involved the NSG’s bomb squad, despite the presence of a fully functional bomb disposal unit within the state police.
We’ve written to @ECISVEEP bringing to their attention how, on the instructions of BJP, CBI and NSG carried out an unscrupulous raid at Sandeshkhali without issuing an actionable notice to the State Government or Police.

Moreover, the TMC accused the CBI of tipping off the media about the raid in advance, suggesting that the agency aimed to generate negative publicity against the party. The TMC expressed concerns that media personnel were present at the raid location before state authorities arrived, leading to widespread coverage portraying recovered weapons as linked to the TMC.
In response to the CBI’s claim of recovering weapons and incriminating documents allegedly linked to Sheikh Shahjahan, a suspended TMC leader facing serious allegations, the TMC raised doubts about the authenticity of these findings. The party insinuated that the weapons recovered may have been planted by the CBI and NSG as part of a BJP-led conspiracy to influence voter sentiment in favor of the BJP.
The CBI, in its statement, listed the recovered items, including foreign-made revolvers, pistols, and various types of ammunition, along with documents associated with Sheikh Shahjahan’s case.
Overall, the TMC’s complaint underscores the intense political tensions surrounding the ongoing elections in West Bengal, with allegations of partisan misuse of investigative agencies and attempts to manipulate public perception through high-profile raids and seizures.
