In a shocking revelation in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder, investigators have discovered that the three men accused of killing Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi were not professional assassins but friends of the victim’s wife’s lover. The brutal murder, allegedly masterminded by Raj Kushwaha—the lover of Raja’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi—was carried out by his close acquaintances under a pre-planned conspiracy.
Friends Turned Killers: Police Reveal New Details
The Shillong Police, who are leading the investigation, have arrested Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raj Kushwaha, and three of Raj’s friends—Anand Kumri, Akash Rajput, and Vicky Thakur. All three men are residents of Madhya Pradesh and were previously believed to be hired contract killers. However, police now confirm they are not professional assassins, but personal acquaintances of Raj, allegedly roped in to execute the murder.
The arrests were made from different locations: Anand Kumri from Bina district (UP), Akash Rajput from Lalitpur district (UP), and Vicky Thakur from Indore (MP).
Murder on a Honeymoon: A Chilling Plot
Raja and Sonam had married on May 11 in Indore and travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon on May 20. On May 28, the couple went missing en route to a tourist destination. Their rented scooter was later found abandoned in Sohrarim, raising alarm. Behind the scenes, Raj Kushwaha, though not physically present in Meghalaya, was coordinating the murder with Sonam.

On the day of the murder, Sonam allegedly led her husband to a deserted stretch of road, where the three men attacked him. Ten days later, Raja’s body was recovered from a deep gorge near Weisawdong Parking Lot at Riat Arliang, with injuries indicating blows to both the front and back of his head. A machete, suspected to be the murder weapon, was recovered from the area.
After the murder, Sonam went missing, prompting a multi-state search. She was eventually found unconscious at a dhaba in Ghazipur, and taken to the Ghazipur Medical College, where she surrendered to police.
