In an accident early Saturday morning, three coaches of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express derailed near Howrah, West Bengal, at Nalpur station, approximately 40 km from Kolkata. Fortunately, no casualties or major injuries have been reported, according to officials.
“A parcel van and two coaches of the 22850 Secunderabad-Shalimar Weekly Express derailed while passing through Nalpur station of Kharagpur Division at 5:31 am today. As reported, there is no major injury and casualty,” confirmed the South Eastern Railway in a statement.
Relief Efforts Underway
The derailment occurred as the train was transitioning from the middle to outer tracks. Relief trains and medical assistance from Santragachhi and Kharagpur were dispatched to the scene, where efforts are underway to ensure passenger safety and transport.
To assist passengers stranded due to the derailment, buses have been arranged to take them to their destination. The incident has raised questions about track conditions and train safety, though railway officials have yet to comment on the cause of the derailment.
