RCB Victory Parade Stampede Updates | In the wake of the tragic stampede that claimed 11 lives and injured nearly 50 during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL 2025 victory celebrations outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) secretary A Shankar and treasurer E.S. Jairam have tendered their resignations, citing “moral responsibility.”
In a joint statement released on Friday, the two officials said, “This is to inform that due to the unforeseen and unfortunate events that have unfolded in the last two days and though our role was very limited, but owing moral responsibility, we wish to state that last night we have tendered our resignation to our respective posts as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, by way of a letter dated 06.06.2025 to the President of Karnataka State Cricket Association.”
First IPL Title Tainted by Tragedy
For the first time in the tournament’s 18-year history, RCB clinched the IPL title, bringing joy to millions of fans. However, celebrations on June 4 turned tragic as a massive crowd surged outside the stadium, leading to a stampede that killed 11 fans and injured over 50 others.
The chaos erupted after rumours of free entry circulated among fans gathered to see Virat Kohli and the championship-winning squad. The police have since arrested four individuals, including Nikhil Sosale, RCB’s head of marketing, and three officials from DNA Entertainment Pvt Ltd, the event management firm handling the celebration.
RCB Offers Financial Aid and Support Fund
In a bid to assist the families affected by the disaster, RCB announced ₹10 lakh compensation for each of the 11 deceased. The franchise also revealed plans to establish a relief fund named “RCB Cares” to support the injured.

“The unfortunate incident in Bengaluru yesterday has caused a lot of anguish and pain to the RCB family,” the team said in a statement. “As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced a financial support of Rs 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased. In addition, a fund called RCB Cares is also being created to support fans injured in this tragic incident.”
High-Level Scrutiny and Criticism
A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the incident, with a report expected within the next two weeks. The BCCI, led by secretary Devajit Saikia, has raised serious concerns over the planning and lack of coordination between RCB, local police, and the district administration.
Saikia pointed to Mumbai’s smooth T20 World Cup victory parade in 2024 as an example of how proper coordination could prevent such tragedies.
Social media backlash has also mounted, particularly after RCB initially promoted the celebration parade through a post that was later deleted once Bengaluru Traffic Police flagged logistical challenges. The parade was ultimately scrapped due to overcrowding and rain, despite being officially approved by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
