Prajwal Revanna Moves Supreme Court: Former Member of Parliament (MP) Prajwal Revanna, who faces multiple serious charges, including rape and sexual harassment, has approached the Supreme Court of India after his bail was denied by the Karnataka High Court. Revanna, who is the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and nephew of Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, is facing charges related to two cases of rape and one involving the recording of a video of sexual harassment.

The High Court had rejected Revanna’s bail petition on October 21, citing the gravity of the charges against him. His legal team has now sought the intervention of the Supreme Court, which has scheduled a hearing for Monday to consider the petition.

The Allegations

The charges against Prajwal Revanna stem from accusations by multiple women, who allege that he forced them into sexual acts, some of which were filmed without their consent. These incidents reportedly took place earlier this year, with the first videos surfacing on April 23, just days before the elections in Hassan, where Revanna was a candidate from the Janata Dal Secular (JDS) party.

Following the emergence of the disturbing videos, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the allegations, and a Blue Corner notice was issued for his arrest. However, Revanna left for Germany shortly after the videos came to light, returning to India only after a public appeal by his family, including HD Deve Gowda and HD Kumaraswamy, urging him to come back. He was eventually arrested on May 31.

Election Fallout and Suspension

Revanna’s political career took a significant hit after the allegations surfaced. Despite being a prominent candidate from Hassan, he lost the election by a margin of over 40,000 votes. In the wake of the scandal, he was also suspended from the JDS, further damaging his political prospects.

The upcoming Supreme Court hearing will be crucial in determining whether Revanna will remain in custody as the legal proceedings continue. The case has attracted significant public and media attention due to its high-profile nature and the involvement of prominent political figures.
