Prime Minister Narendra Modi robustly defended India’s economic trajectory, asserting that the nation is on course to become the world’s third-largest economy despite global economic challenges. Speaking at a rally in Varanasi, Modi responded to US President Donald Trump’s recent claim that India is a “dead economy,” emphasizing the need for self-reliance through ‘swadeshi’ products. The Prime Minister also issued a stern warning to Pakistan-based terror elements, reinforcing India’s resolve to protect its interests.
India’s Path to Economic Prominence
Addressing global economic turbulence sparked by Trump’s imposition of a 25% tariff on Indian imports, PM Modi highlighted India’s resilience and ambition. “There is an atmosphere of global instability. All countries are focusing on their individual interests. India is going to become the third biggest economy in the world and that is why India will have to stay alert as far as its economic interests are concerned,” he said. Modi urged unity across political lines to promote ‘swadeshi’ products, stating, “Those who want the best for the country and want to see India as the third biggest economy in the world, be it any political party, should leave their differences aside and instil a resolution for ‘swadeshi’ products. We will buy only those things that are made by Indians. We need to become vocal for local.” This call for self-reliance comes in response to Trump’s July 31 social media post, where he dismissed India and Russia as “dead economies,” saying, “I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care.”

Strong Stance Against Terrorism
At the same rally, PM Modi took a firm stand against terrorism, issuing a direct warning to Pakistan-based terror groups. Referencing India’s decisive actions, he said, “When there is injustice and terror in front, Mahadev adorns his ‘Rudra roop’. The world saw this face of India during Operation Sindoor. Anyone who messes with India will not be spared even in ‘pataal lok’.” This statement underscores India’s unwavering commitment to national security while addressing external criticisms and economic pressures, reinforcing Modi’s vision of a strong and self-reliant India.
