Jajpur Murder Attempt | In a gruesome incident in Odisha’s Jajpur district, a man allegedly slit his estranged wife’s throat and mutilated her live-in partner’s genitals with a sharp weapon on Wednesday. The attack occurred near Malahat village, with both victims currently in critical condition at the District Headquarters Hospital.
According to police, the accused has been identified as Manoj Kumar Mohanty, a resident of Jarada village. The victims have been identified as Mohanty’s estranged wife and her current partner, Prashant Nath.
The woman had reportedly left her marital home about a year ago and had been living with Prashant Nath since then. Police said the assailant used a sharp-edged weapon in the attack, inflicting deep injuries on both individuals. Medical officials confirmed their condition upon arrival at the hospital.
Victim Alleges Attack Was Planned by Estranged Husband’s Family
In her initial statement to the police, the woman alleged that the attack was orchestrated by her estranged husband’s family. She claimed she was regularly harassed and assaulted during her marriage, leading to her decision to leave the household.

“My in-laws frequently harassed me, beat me up. Feeling fed up with this, I ran away with this person a year ago,” she told the police.
According to her account, she and her partner were lured to a location near Sathipur Bridge under the guise of a reconciliation meeting. Once there, they were ambushed. “They called us to Sathipur Bridge near Malahat. Once we reached, my brother-in-law and my father-in-law’s nephew tied us up. Then they slit our throats and pushed us down,” she added.
The local residents helped transport the couple to the hospital.
A case of attempted murder has been registered, and a manhunt is underway to track down the accused.
