New Delhi: Panic created in North Delhi’s Jagarpur village on Monday morning when a leopard attacked resident resulting in injuries to at least five individuals. The local authorities said that the leopard, which had strayed into the village, caused panic among locals before being successfully rescued.
The feline intruder reportedly leaped from a house terrace in Jagatpur village early morning, then entered another building where it was confined to a room. Social media videos depicted scenes of people chasing the leopard while others fled in fear.
Delhi Fire Service responded swiftly to the situation after receiving information at 6:20 am, dispatching two fire tenders to the scene. “With the assistance of locals, the authorities managed to contain the leopard within a room, and the injured were promptly taken to a hospital,” stated the officials.
According to a resident, the leopard was first spotted around 4:30 am, prompting a PCR call at 5:15 am. Despite efforts to control it, the leopard reportedly attempted to attack numerous individuals, resulting in injuries.
A senior police official stated that authorities were alerted about the leopard’s intrusion into a house in Jagatpur village, prompting immediate response from local police and notification of forest department officials.
Residents emphasized the lack of proper fencing or security measures despite the village’s proximity to forested areas.
This incident follows previous encounters with leopards in the national capital, including sightings in residential areas like Sainik Farms in South Delhi last December. Despite efforts to relocate the animals to wildlife sanctuaries, concerns persist regarding human-wildlife encounters, exemplified by a fatal incident involving a leopard on National Highway.
