Five Pink Toilets have already been constructed for women which are located at LIC-Parliament Street, near Super Bazaar-Outer Circle, Factory Road-Safdarjung Hospital, ‘B’ Avenue-Sarojini Nagar near ICICI Bank and Ramgharia Dharamshala near Safdarjung Hospital.

New Delhi: With the aim to provide public convenience as amenities along with safety and dignity of women and transgender community, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is being constructed more Public Toilets specially for ‘Transgenders’ and also Pink Toilets for Women, said Vice Chairman (VC) of NDMC Satish Upadhyay.
Upadhyay informed that so far five Pink Toilets have already been constructed for women which are located at LIC-Parliament Street, near Super Bazaar-Outer Circle, Factory Road-Safdarjung Hospital, ‘B’ Avenue-Sarojini Nagar near ICICI Bank and Ramgharia Dharamshala near Safdarjung Hospital. The work of another Pink toilet will start soon at B Block-Inner Circle-Connaught Place.
He further said that after constructing the capital’s first public toilet for transgenders on Humayun Road and Rajendra Prasad Road, it has now decided to increase its number in which the Council is going to construction of 10 more toilets at Lodhi Garden, Laxmibai Nagar, near Safdarjung Hospital, Akbar Lane, Panchkuian Road, Copernicus Marg and there is also a provision for construction of four toilets in blocks ‘A’,’B’, ‘D’ and ‘F’ of Connaught Place.
The VC said that the objective of NDMC is that transgenders do not have to fall prey to discrimination. This facility is the first free public toilet service for transgenders. The toilet will be open every day between 6 am to 10 pm. A touch screen interface has also been installed in the toilet where users can give reviews and lodge their complaints which the council will try to address. He said the motive of council is to provide better facilities to each citizen and visitors of the New Delhi area.
