Bypoll to Asansol Lok Sabha seat, along with four assembly seats, will be held on April 12, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Saturday. The assembly seats where bypolls will be held on April 12 are – Ballygunge (West Bengal), Khairagarh (Chhattisgarh), Bochaha (Bihar) and Kolhapur North.

New Delhi: TMC supremo and Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee on Sunday announced that former Union Minister and Bollywood actor Shatrughan Sinha will be the party’s candidate in Lok Sabha byploll from Asansol constituency. Banrejee also announced candidature of Babul Supriyo, a former union minister and singer, for the assembly bypolls from Ballygunge.
Former Union minister and actor Shatrughan Sinha will be contesting the Lok Sabha bypoll from Asansol constituency in West Bengal on the All India Trinamool Congress’ ticket. TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced the same on Twitter on Sunday. She wrote, “Happy to announce on behalf of the All India Trinamool Congress that Sri Shatrughan Sinha, former Union Minister and famed actor, will be our candidate in Lok Sabha by-election from Asansol.”

Sinha (76), who was with the BJP earlier, had joined the Congress ahead of the 2019 national polls. However, he had lost from his stronghold Patna Sahib in Bihar to the BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad. Supriyo (51) exited the BJP) and joined the TMC two months after he was removed as a Union minister of state, admitting he was disappointed at what had happened despite his “hard work and good work”.
