Following the accident, Shah reportedly contacted his girlfriend 40 times before abandoning his car, removing its number plate to evade detection, and heading to her house via auto-rickshaw.

Mihir Shah, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, hit the scooter, causing Pradeep to be thrown off and Kaveri to be dragged under the car for 1.5 kilometers. Mihir Shah then switched seats with his driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, reversed the car over Kaveri, and fled the scene.

After abandoning the vehicle in Kala Nagar, Bandra, Shah went to his girlfriend’s house in Goregaon, where he stayed for two hours. During this time, his girlfriend informed Shah’s sister about the accident. Shah’s sister subsequently took him to their home in Borivali. From there, Shah’s mother, two sisters, and a friend took him to a resort in Shahpur to hide while the police searched for him.

The police arrested the father of the accused, Rajesh Shah, and the driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, while Mihir Shah evaded capture until a phone call made by his friend Avdeep revealed their location in Virar. Mihir Shah was eventually arrested and presented in court on Wednesday, where he was remanded to police custody until July 16.

The police are considering detaining Shah’s girlfriend for questioning to determine what she knew about the accident and whether Shah was intoxicated when he contacted her and visited her home.
