New details have emerged in the tragic Mumbai BMW hit and run case, where a BMW driven by the 24-year-old son of a Shiv Sena leader fatally struck a woman on Sunday morning. Police have reviewed multiple CCTV footage, revealing that the vehicle dragged the victim for 1.5 kilometers before stopping.
The incident occurred when Kaveri Nakva and her husband Pradik Nakva were on their two-wheeler and were hit by the BMW, driven by Mihir Shah, son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah. Following the collision, Mihir Shah sped away, dragging Kaveri’s body under the car.

Rajesh Shah has been detained, while Mihir Shah remains at large.
Swapped seats with driver
According to police, CCTV footage showed Mihir Shah stopping the BMW after dragging Kaveri Nakva for 1.5 km. He then swapped seats with his driver and removed Kaveri’s body from under the car. The police told the court that Mihir Shah left her body on the road, before his driver reversed the BMW over the body and fled the scene.
The driver’s involvement has led to charges of culpable homicide, as the police argued he was “well aware of his actions and helped the other accused.”
This incident echoes a similar hit-and-run case in Pune, where two software engineers were killed, and the accused’s influential family allegedly tried to tamper with evidence and mislead the authorities.
11 teams formed to look for Mihir Shah
In response to the incident, the Mumbai Police have formed 11 teams, including the Crime Branch, to apprehend Mihir Shah. A lookout notice has also been issued to prevent him from leaving the country.
The police reported that after the accident, Mihir Shah and his co-accused Rajrishi Bidawat took the BMW to Bandra, where they abandoned it.

Mihir Shah then switched to another car and headed towards Borivali in Mumbai. He was last traced to his female friend’s house in Borivali, after which he turned off his mobile phone. Police believe he might attempt to flee Maharashtra, prompting teams to be sent to neighbouring states, including Gujarat.
A police officer noted that Mihir Shah’s house in Palghar was found locked when officers visited.
The Rs 18,000 booze bill
Investigators revealed that Mihir Shah had been partying with four friends at a bar in Juhu until the early hours of Sunday. The police have recovered a bar bill amounting to Rs 18,000.
Rajesh Shah arrived at the accident site at 6:45 am, roughly an hour and a half after the incident, which occurred at 5:30 am. He has been charged with giving misinformation and destroying evidence.

Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde has vowed that no one will be spared in this case. “No one, whether rich, influential, or the offspring of bureaucrats or ministers, affiliated with any party, will have immunity as long as I am the Chief Minister,” he stated.
‘It is intolerable’
Shinde expressed concern over the rise in hit-and-run cases in Maharashtra, stating, “It is intolerable that the powerful and influential misuse their status to manipulate the system. Such miscarriages of justice will not be tolerated by my government.”
Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray also commented on the incident via social media, urging swift action from the police. “I hope the police will act swiftly to catch the accused and bring him to justice. Hopefully, there will be no political refuge by the regime,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
